Control
Control is like four fingers pressed together to form the tip of a chrome .66,
Dipped in sheets of metal hardened by the cool of the heat,
From beyond my reach is the freedom that the screams of children preach,
Marching to the beat of their own completion on the concrete,
Keeping time with the crime committed against me in my sleep,
I keep it deep inside the reason why I cry when I keep on sinning,
Forgetting that every wet bed has its consequence,
I wake in the morning and the sheet beneath me is soaking,
I can’t find the words I need to say to make things right today,
Shamed by guilt from the tight cycle in which I engage,
Confused by my refusal to exit this revolving door,
On the street I don’t need to be blind in order to survive,
I stay alive by seeing the things that are happening in front of me –
And he and I have an unwritten agreement in which I do not speak.

This week in the Jungle we are searching for the truth about wealthy—what it means to be wealthy, how that differs around the world, and if and when wealthy people deserve to be treated differently than everyone else. Last week: poverty. Next week: big government.
