The Avocado Jungle’s Artist In Residence program was created to pursue a number of goals:
- Share under-recognized artists, or show well-known artists in a different light.
- Foster artistic creation, interaction and collaboration.
- Illuminate and explore the ties between art, society, humanity and the important issues of the day.

Adjoa Skinner, singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, and Summer 2010 Avocado Jungle Artist In Residence.
SUMMER 2010
Adjoa Skinner
Adjoa is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist (acoustic guitar, piano, djembe) based out of Los Angeles, CA who has shared a stage with the Jonas Brothers, Amy Grant, Carney, The Daylights & Daniel Bedingfield. She’s a diverse artist who grew up singing jazz while being classically trained in voice, piano and flute. From a family of musicians, she left NY in 2000 to live and work in East, South and West Africa. It was in Ghana in the year 2003 that she was given the name Adjoa while she helped set up a music school that still runs to this day. In 2006 Adjoa began creating her sound and crafting her live show in Los Angeles. Holding down local residencies for months at a time she started creating a buzz that got the attention of Grammy-award winning producer Charlie Peacock. Soon after, Adjoa was chosen as a Sapere Artist with Wedgwood Circle, which exists to promote the creation of cultural artifacts that are good, true and beautiful for the common good in arts and entertainment. (http://wedgwoodcircle.com/). The ball kept rolling when Christmas 2009 she was chosen to be apart of a small group of performing artists from New Zealand, Germany and the USA to travel to Singapore and perform for the National Christmas show in front of 30,000 people. Since then Adjoa has been performing solo shows in colleges all throughout the US, flying from her LA home to different colleges bi-monthly while still teaching students in voice/keys/flute/guitar and performing with her band-mates in LA. In March 2010 Skinner and her band recorded and performed her original songs for the LA Chapter of the Audio Engineering Society where she was recorded by Shawn Murphy (John Williams’ engineer, who has recorded over 300 motion pictures). She self-released a 5-song EP “Nothin More To Say” in April 2009 and is working on a full length record to be released 2011. Adjoa Skinner endorses Sennheiser Mics and Alvarez Guitars.
